AMERICAN MRE FIELD MANUAL
Compare MRE case sizes, understand meal contents, and review storage and inspection dates before buying. This field manual brings the key ordering details together.
01 / Cases & quantities
Standard U.S. military MRE cases contain 12 individually packaged meals. Case A and Case B cover different menu groups. Exact entrées and supporting components depend on production year and the inventory listed.
| Option | Meals | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Single MRE | 1 | Random or menu-selected |
| Case A | 12 | Menus 1–12 |
| Case B | 12 | Menus 13–24 |
| One A + one B | 24 | Two standard cases |
| 48-case pallet | 576 | Case mix and freight details |
These counts apply to standard military MREs. Specialty rations, HDRs, and other products can use different pack sizes. Confirm the selected listing before ordering.
Compare current inventory →02 / Contents & preparation
Standard MRE food is fully cooked and can be eaten without heating. A flameless ration heater warms compatible food pouches using a small amount of water; follow its printed directions. Check the listing to confirm which heaters and accessories are included.
Cold-weather rations and freeze-dried meals can require added water. Drink powders also need water. Include drinking water and any preparation supplies in your plan, even when the main entrée is ready to eat.
Depending on the menu and production year, an MRE may include sides, snacks, spreads, dessert, beverage powder, utensils, and other accessories. Components and approved substitutions vary, so an example photo is not a promise of identical contents in every meal.
Check the individual package labels for ingredients, allergens, and preparation instructions. Use the product description for inventory-specific details.
03 / Storage & dates
Keep MREs in a cool, dry place and protect the packaging from damage. Sustained heat can shorten useful storage life. Rotate your supply and review its age, condition, and storage history before relying on it.
An inspection date indicates a point for evaluating the ration. It does not establish a new manufacture date or guarantee a fixed number of additional years. Read the production information and current condition notes alongside the inspection date.
Some ration components use a four-digit date code: a year digit followed by the day of the year. The year digit repeats each decade, so the code needs supporting packaging or production information to identify the correct year.
Photos, date information, and descriptions on the individual listing identify the inventory being offered. Contact American MRE Supply if you need clarification before ordering.
04 / Planning & bulk orders
For a meal-count estimate, multiply the number of people by the number of days and the meals you want to cover each day. This is a quantity estimate—not a complete nutrition plan. Allow for preferences, dietary needs, other food, and water.
Tell us the number of cases or pallets, destination ZIP code, requested delivery date, and whether you have a loading dock or forklift. Include liftgate needs and any quote, invoice, or purchasing documentation requirements. Availability and delivery arrangements are confirmed in the quote.
Multi-case orders may ship in separate boxes and arrive on different days. Pallet deliveries require different handling from parcel orders. Review the agreed delivery arrangements and keep all tracking details for your shipment.

Military MREs are our main focus: sealed, ready-to-eat meals in packs, cases and pallet quantities. Our wider catalog helps you add emergency drinking water, survival tools, first aid and backup power. Food rations and freeze-dried meals are different products with different preparation requirements.

Contact usMRE means Meal, Ready-to-Eat. A standard military MRE is an individually sealed meal pack with a fully cooked entrée and supporting components. Contents vary by menu and production year.
A standard military MRE case holds 12 meals. Case A covers Menus 1–12; Case B covers Menus 13–24. A standard pallet holds 48 cases, or 576 meals. HDRs are different: our HDR case contains 10 daily ration packs with 20 entrées.
Available choices are shown on each product page. Where a menu selector is offered, choose from the listed meals. Random assortments and case options contain the selection or menu group stated on the listing.
Shipping is free to the lower 48 states. No code is needed. Contact American MRE Supply for delivery options outside the lower 48 and to coordinate pallet deliveries.
Current standard MREs include a flameless ration heater for warming the entrée with a small amount of water. The food itself is fully cooked and can be eaten without heating. Drink powders and some other components need water; cold-weather rations contain dehydrated components and require water to prepare.
Shelf life depends on age and storage temperature. We keep our MRE inventory in climate-controlled storage until shipment. Store your order in a cool, dry place after delivery and rotate it. An inspection date is not an automatic expiration date or a promise of ten additional years.
